Subject: | Resolution Recognizing April 2018 as "Child Identity Theft Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
I will soon be introducing a Resolution to recognize April 2018 as Child Identity Theft Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. It is important to store paper and electronic records that include a child’s personal information safely because identify theft can occur to anyone, at any age. Children are especially vulnerable because detection may not occur until a child becomes an adult and seeks employment or applies for a loan. Social Security numbers should not be shared with an unknown party. A child’s identity can be protected by shredding all documents that contain any personal, identifying information before being thrown in the trash. In addition, parents and guardians should ask schools and organizations what safeguards are in place to protect their child’s personal information from the risk of identity theft. Please join me in co-sponsoring this Resolution to bring awareness to Pennsylvanians about child identity theft. |
