|Subject:||“Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania – March 11 – 17, 2018|
|In the near future, we intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of March 11 through March 17, 2018, as “Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania.
Multiple sclerosis, commonly referred to as MS, is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Common symptoms of MS include fatigue, weakness, spasticity, balance problems, bladder and bowel problems, numbness, vision loss, tremors, and depression. This disease affects an estimated 400,000 Americans and more than 24,000 Pennsylvanians. Unfortunately, there is no known cause or cure.
“Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week,” which is coordinated annually by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, provides advocates and patients with the opportunity to educate the public about this disease. During this week, individuals participate in events which raise awareness, improve public understanding, and bring us closer to a world free of MS.
By recognizing the week of March 11, 2018, as “Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week," we are encouraging citizens across the Commonwealth to learn more about this disease and how they can improve the lives of those living with MS. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
