Subject: | Resolution Recognizing the Month of January 2018 as "Amblyopia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
I will be introducing a resolution in the near future recognizing the month of January 2018 as "Amblyopia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Amblyopia, or lazy eye as it is more commonly called, can cause permanent loss of vision in children if not identified and successfully treated. Treatment is most successful if the disorder is detected before the child reaches the age of five. Currently, fewer than 20 percent of preschool children are screened for vision problems. Please join me in raising awareness for amblyopia as well as highlighting the importance for early vision screenings. |
