Subject: | Proposed Legislation - Wehrle's Salamander |
Please join me as a co-sponsor of legislation to designate Wehrle's Salamander as the official state amphibian of the Commonwealth. This salamander was discovered by R. W. Wehrle, a jeweler, businessman, and naturalist from Indiana, Pennsylvania in 1911. He was known for his submissions of animal specimens to museums and for providing outdoors experiences for area boys through his Boy’s Naturalist Club. In 1917, the salamander he discovered was named after him. At the suggestion of an outdoorsman in my district, I am introducing this legislation to serve as a tribute to Wehrle’s continuing impact to the naturalist and scientific community, and I ask that you join me in honoring that legacy. |
