Subject: | Faith-Based Insurance Providers |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will make it easier for faith-based insurance providers without religious requirements to offer their services to individuals of other faith traditions or non-faith traditions, should they so choose. Currently, an outdated law written nearly a century ago prohibits these faith-based insurance companies from offering their services to Pennsylvanians who do not subscribe to the faith-based company’s denomination and lack the approval of a pastor. The purpose of this legislation is to provide more options for the residents of Pennsylvania for insurance coverage. This proposal will allow religious insurance providers who accept any individual, regardless of faith, to be held to the same standards as those organizations that only cover those with similar beliefs. It should be noted that this legislation does not require these organizations to cover people of different faiths and beliefs. Rather, it simply lets those organizations without religious requirements be able to provide their services in the same way organizations with religious requirements do. I hope you will consider co-sponsoring this bill and joining me in making it easier for faith-based insurance providers to cover more Pennsylvanians. |
