MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 21, 2017 02:53 PM
From: Representative Thomas P. Murt
To: All House members
Subject: License Fee Exemption for Detection Dogs

I am planning to introduce legislation that will amend the PA Dog Law. The Dog Law currently exempts service dogs and police dogs from license fees. I plan to introduce legislation that will also exempt detection dogs and former detection dogs from license fees. All dogs are still required to wear tags. A detection dog is “a dog which is trained and used for accelerant detection, bomb or explosives detection, narcotics detection or other scent detection.” Since detection dogs perform work similar to police dogs, it seems that this type of dog should also be exempt from license fees.

Please join me in supporting our emergency and safety responders by cosponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB1663
