Subject: Disabled Vetern Property Tax Exemption - 2 Bill Package

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to extend property tax exemption to Pennsylvania veterans who are 80-100% disabled. Currently, the Pennsylvania Constitution only provides property tax exemption to veterans who are 100% disabled.

My legislation consists of 2 bills:

The first bill amends Title 51 (Military Affairs) to extend this exemption to those veterans who have been determined to be at least 80% disabled.
Further, Section 8, 2(a) (ii) of the Pennsylvania stipulates that if providing a property tax exemption without amending the Constitution, the General Assembly must "...provide for the reimbursement of local taxing authorities by or through the Commonwealth for revenue losses occasioned by such exemption."

As such, the second bill in this package amends the Tax Reform Code of 1971, to create a voluntary $5 voluntary contribution to the Veterans Trust Fund (VTF) on the Pennsylvania individual income tax reform form.
Our veterans deserve our utmost respect and appreciation - especially those who's service has resulted in a permanent disability. It is incumbent upon us to make their lives easier in any way possible, and we, as legislators, should do all we can to honor these brave men and women. Exempting those veterans who are at least 80% disabled from paying property taxes is just one way we can show our gratitude to those who put their lives on the line and sacrificed for our country.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation and honor Pennsylvania's most worthy citizens.
