Subject: | Resolution Designating May 2017 as “Ichthyosis Awareness Month” |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 2017 as “Ichthyosis Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Ichthyosis is a family of genetic skin disorders characterized by dry, scaling skin that may be thickened or very thin. Each year, more than 16,000 babies are born with some form of ichthyosis, and a recent study has determined that approximately 300 babies are born each year with a moderate to severe form of ichthyosis. This rare skin disorder can present medical complications such as dehydration, infections, chronic blistering, overheating and rapid-calorie loss. There is currently no known cure for ichthyosis. During the month of May, families and friends are encouraged around the world to join together, use their voices and raise awareness about the challenges and hopes of the ichthyosis community. Please consider co-sponsoring this resolution designating May 2017 as “Ichthyosis Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania in a continued effort to increasing awareness of this rare skin disorder. |
