MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 14, 2017 01:10 PM
From: Representative Rick Saccone
To: All House members
Subject: Amending Title 65 - Public Officers, former HB 42

As elected officials and public servants, we must hold ourselves to the most rigorous measures of behavior and morality in order to earn and keep the trust of the citizenry. Our actions and those of our employees reflect not only on us, but on the people that we represent. We should strive not only to reduce corruption, but the perception of it. In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will amend Title 65 (Public Officers) and will hopefully restore the faith that people should have in their government. The bill is as follows:

1. Amending the definition of “Immediate Family” in Section 1102 to include grandparent, grandchild, niece, nephew, or spouse thereof, or like relative in law.

Currently, for purposes of “conflicts of interest”, immediate family only includes, parent, spouse, child, brother or sister.

This leaves open the possibility of circumventing the law by benefiting spouses of family members, grandparents or grandchildren. This tightening of the law is needed and appropriate to maintain the integrity of our government. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation.

Introduced as HB559
