Subject: | Merging the PHMC with DCNR |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will combine the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). On July 1, 1995, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was establish whereas it has been tasked with maintaining and preserving the 120 state parks; managing the 2.2 million acres of state forest land; providing information on the state’s ecological and geologic resources; and establishing community conservation partnerships to benefit and promote Pennsylvania. Throughout my time in the legislature, DCNR has demonstrated to me and my constituency that they can adequately and effectively conserve, interpret and promote Pennsylvania’s resources and historical heritage as it does now with the Commonwealth’s rivers, trails, greenways, local parks and recreation, regional heritage parks, open space and natural areas. It is imperative that we conserve and sustain Pennsylvania’s natural resources and historic heritage for present and future generations’ use and enjoyment and, because of that, DCNR is the most appropriate department to manage and encourage responsible stewardship of the Commonwealth’s natural resources and historic heritage. Moreover, this initiative comes at a crucial time in Pennsylvania where we must prioritize and streamline state funding to ensure we are adequately serving, protecting and supporting Pennsylvania. Please join me in supporting this legislation. |
