Subject: | Veterinarian Immunity Bill |
In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation that will provide civil liability to Veterinarians, Veterinarian technicians, and Veterinary assistants when they report suspected animal cruelty in good faith. (Former HB760) Veterinarians are required to protect the personal privacy of clients, unless it becomes necessary to protect the health and welfare of an individual, the animal, or others. While the majority of the profession recognizes this important role and responsibility to society and animal well-being, there are concerns within the community that such reporting, or lack thereof, leaves them susceptible to legal action. This bill will provide them with the requisite legal protections when it is necessary to report any incidents of suspected animal cruelty.
