MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2017 03:28 PM
From: Representative Keith Gillespie
To: All House members
Subject: Volunteer Instructor License (former HB 1452)

In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that would provide for a discounted general hunting license for Hunter Trapper Education (HTE) Instructors by creating a “Volunteer Instructor License”.
In this day and age, it can be extremely difficult recruiting volunteers and retaining them over an extended period of time. The PA Game Commission relies solely on volunteer service for Hunter Trapper Education instructors. These volunteer instructors are charged with educating the next generation of hunters in PA in rules, regulations, and above all, safety. Annually, approximately 2,400 HTE instructors logged more than 35,000 hours, and over 41,000 students were certified through the program.
This legislation would recognize the time and effort that these volunteer instructors dedicate each year to the sport, as well as invest in the future of the HTE program.

Introduced as HB582
