Subject: | Legislation to Exempt Maple Sugar Houses from UCC (former HB 2386) |
Please find attached a copy of legislation I plan to introduce in the near future to amend the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act (Act 45 of 1999) to exempt structures utilized to process maple sap which are commonly known as “maple sugar houses”. These are typically small structures that the public does not have access to which are used in a manner consistent with agricultural production. This is a reintroduction of my legislation (House Bill 2386) from last session. My legislative district has many small maple producers who, on occasion, have had local code enforcement officers argue that their “sugar houses” are subject to the standards of the Uniform Construction Code (UCC). I believe that requiring these private structures to be subject to the UCC is overly-bureaucratic and serves no purpose. Again, these structures are typically private and not accessible to the public. |
