MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 7, 2016 01:11 PM
From: Representative Michael J. Driscoll
To: All House members
Subject: Waterfront Redevelopment Grant Program Act - (Former HB1810 of 2015-2016 )

In the near future, I plan to re-introduce House Bill 1810 from the 2015-2016 Session. This measure promotes the revitalization and redevelopment of waterfront areas in the Commonwealth by establishing a state grant program aimed at increasing both public and private investment and economic development in Pennsylvania’s coastal and waterfront areas.

Under this legislation the Waterfront Redevelopment Grant Program Act is established, to be administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development. The program seeks to provide funding for projects which support remediation and economic development in areas of the state where potentially contaminated, undeveloped or under-developed property exists. Eligible entities include: municipal and county governments, other political subdivisions, and industrial economic development or redevelopment authorities.

We, as a Commonwealth, have an interest in promoting redevelopment of our coastal waterways, while at the same time ensuring protection of these areas. This legislation will give us the opportunity to revitalize communities through economic development, creating jobs and providing access to waterfronts for the enjoyment and recreation of the people of Pennsylvania.

I hope you will consider joining me in support of this legislation. Your consideration is appreciated.
