Subject: | Tourism Promotion Fee, Establishing the Sports Commission in a County of the Second Class (Allegheny) |
In the near future, I will reintroduce House Bill 2160 of 2016 “Authorizing A Tourism Promotion Fee, Providing for A Tourism Promotion Fund and Distribution and establishing the Sports Commission in a County of the Second Class (Allegheny).” The Pittsburgh Area has a strong reputation for attracting and hosting major events. The creation of the Pittsburgh Sports Commission would enhance the work already being done by local event organizers, sports franchises and the marketing efforts of VisitPITTSBURGH. With the competitiveness and complexity of the bidding landscape the Commission would be the first point of contact for sports events and meetings. Pittsburgh’s Sports Commission would be set up as a 501( c ) 6 with a board of directors, president and a mission statement. The Commission would be funded by a 1.25% increase on hotel rooms. The proposal has the support of the Greater Pittsburgh Hotel Association. National and International media attention will provide new audiences to the many unique qualities of Pittsburgh. HOUSE BILL 2160 OF 2016: MUSTIO, P. COSTA, DERMODY, GIBBONS, ENGLISH, SACCONE, MILLARD, MOUL, EVANKOVICH, DEASY, ORTITAY, MATZIE, JAMES, KOTIK, READSHAW, FRANKEL, RAVENSTAHL, KORTZ, LONGIETTI, D.
