Subject: | Life Lease Inclusion, Prior HB 1935 |
In the coming weeks I plan to re-introduce legislation that will amend Title 53 (Municipalities Generally) of the Consolidated Statutes in order to permit those individuals who are engaged in a life lease to receive homestead exclusions. Currently, the definition of “owner” provided in Title 53 fails to include individuals engaged in a life lease. By amending the definition of “owner”, my legislation will extend the benefits that are provided in Sp. Session Act 1 of 2006 to these deserving individuals. In most cases, individuals who are engaged in a life lease are responsible for remitting all necessary taxes associated the property, including all real estate taxes. Furthermore, these people are also responsible for all costs associated with the maintenance and upkeep of the property they are occupying. Please join me in my efforts to assist these taxpayers by providing them with property tax assistance and cosponsor this important piece of legislation. DM/so |
