MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 6, 2016 04:02 PM
From: Representative Mike Vereb and Rep. Tim Briggs, Rep. Mary Jo Daley
To: All House members
Subject: LEGISLATION – Designating the pedestrian walkway on the Matsonford Bridge as the Clay-Doc Walk at Matsonford

In the near future Representatives Mary Jo Daley, Tim Briggs and I plan to introduce legislation that will designate the pedestrian walkways of the Matsonford Bridge located on State Route 3016 connecting the Boroughs of West Conshohocken and Conshohocken, Montgomery County, over the Schuylkill River as the Clay-Doc Walk at Matsonford ~ after former Police Chiefs Joseph G. Clayborne III and James H. Dougherty Sr.

Joseph G. Clayborne III, former police Chief of West Conshohocken Borough of Montgomery County, has provided over 36 years of dedicated service in law enforcement from serving as a Deputy Sheriff of Montgomery County, a Patrolman for the West Conshohocken Police Department and advancing to Police Chief for 26 years until his retirement. Chief Clayborne began his public service career with enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1969 where he served in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in the 101st Airborne Division. End of watch April 24, 2009.

James H. Dougherty Sr, former police Chief of Conshohocken Borough of Montgomery County, has provided over 38 years of dedicated service in law enforcement from serving as a Patrolman for the Conshohocken Police Department, Detective Juvenile Officer and advancing to Police Chief for 14 years until his retirement. Chief Dougherty began his public service career with serving in Vietnam as a U.S. Marine from 1966-1968, and continued his military career as a National Guardsmen throughout the 1970s. End of watch September 21, 2011.

Both Clayborne and Dougherty had exemplary careers in law enforcement and both served and protected their communities with compassion and volunteered many hours to numerous charities and organizations and we are choosing to forever honor them by naming the pedestrian walkway on the Matsonford Bridge as the Clay-Doc Walk at Matsonford.

Matsonford has a long and respectful history and continues to be well regarded and the communities on either end of the bridge have unanimously adopted resolutions supporting this pedestrian walkway designation for the Clay-Doc Walk at Matsonford.
