|Subject:||Increasing the Organ Donation Advisory Committee Membership|
|In the near future, I plan to reintroduce HB 782, amending Title 20 (Decedents, Estates and Fiduciaries), Section 8622 (The Governor Robert P. Casey Memorial Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Trust Fund), to add additional members to the Organ Donation Advisory Committee to include a representative of a federally qualified community health center and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The role of the Organ Donation Advisory Committee is to review progress made in reducing the number of potential unidentified organ donors in Pennsylvania, and to make recommendations with respect to education and awareness training programs, expenditures from the fund, and to advise the Secretary of Health on matters relating to administration of the fund. I think adding a representative of a community health center and the Department of Transportation would provide helpful insight into these discussions.
