MEMORANDUM

Subject: Natural Gas as a Tier II Energy - Prior HB1062

In the near future, I plan on re-introducing legislation to amend the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act (AEPS) by including natural gas as a Tier II alternative energy source. This legislation was previously introduced as HB 1062 (2013-2014.)

The goal of AEPS is to transition Pennsylvania to cleaner forms of energy. However, many of the alternative energy sources mandated for use to comply with the AEPS are very costly and therefore, result in higher energy prices for consumers. Natural gas is clean, abundant, domestic and affordable. By adding natural gas as Tier II alternative energy source we can clean up our air, boost demand for a Pennsylvania resource, create jobs and reduce energy bills for all electric ratepayers

Introduced as HB1354
