MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 15, 2015 04:40 PM
From: Representative Tim Krieger
To: All House members
Subject: Cosponsorship of Legislation - Prior HB375 - Providing for Screening for Illegal Drugs

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation that will amend the Public Welfare Code to direct the Department of Human Services to develop and implement a drug test and a retest program to screen applicants and recipients of public assistance.

Introduced in January 2013 as HB375, this legislation will require ALL applicants and recipients to be screened for illegal drugs in order to be eligible for public assistance. The legislation further removes provisions for individuals who have been convicted of a felony for a drug related offense. In addition, this legislation directs the Department to appoint a protective payee to receive public assistance on behalf of children of the applicant or recipient who is denied public assistance due to failing a drug test or retest.

Prior Cosponsors of (HB375): METZGAR, CUTLER , GINGRICH , EMRICK, TALLMAN, STEPHENS, TRUITT, BLOOM, COX , RAPP , AUMENT, KNOWLES, KAUFFMAN , DUNBAR, C. HARRIS , BOBACK , SWANGER , FLECK , REESE, F.
