MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 19, 2014 12:51 PM
From: Representative Dom Costa
To: All House members
Subject: Exempt School Employee Home Address from Right-to-Know

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation – former House Bill 441 – to amend the Right-to-Know Law to exempt from disclosure the home address of any public school teacher or other public school employee.

If passed, this legislation would exempt from public access the home address of any teacher, administrator, aide, assistant or other individual employed by a Pennsylvania public school district, as defined in the Public School Code of 1948. This exemption would protect the right to privacy of public school employees when they are in the sanctity of their own home, and provide school employees with an additional layer of protection from potentially harmful individuals.

Currently, the Right-to-Know Law exempts the home address of any law enforcement officer or judge from disclosure. By prohibiting access to the home addresses of our public school employees, we can further protect those individuals who willingly give their time to our children.

Please join me in protecting Pennsylvania teachers by by co-sponsoring this critical legislation

Introduced as HB118
