Subject: | Random Drug Testing of Welfare Recipients |
The commonwealth faces a Department of Human Services (Public Welfare) budget which continues to grow. We all want to see people with special and genuine needs helped, my constituents are frustrated with what they see as abuse of some state welfare programs, such as access cards. This is money which is, in many cases, being wasted on those who choose not to work and spend state benefits on illegal and illicit drugs. Shortly, I plan to introduce a bill which will require random drug testing on all those who access these benefit programs. This program will reach across the board and subject all those who turn to the state for a “paycheck” to the same conditions that many who turn to employment must meet. If you share my concerns, please join me in sponsoring this legislation. Thank you.
