MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 10, 2014 03:04 PM

To: All House members
Subject: Volunteer Firefighter Tax Exemption

In the near future I will be re-introducing legislation (former HB 280) drafted with the intent of assisting volunteer firefighters across the Commonwealth. If enacted, the legislation will provide a tax credit of up to $500 to those volunteers who purchase firefighting equipment.

As you may know, as part of the FY 2008-2009 State budget, the General Assembly enacted a tax credit for volunteer firefighters that is based upon service time. This tax credit would provide for financial assistance to those volunteers that spent their own hard earned money in order to purchase supplies that are designed to protect them.

I believe that being a volunteer firefighter is one of the most selfless things anyone can do, by providing financial assistance to these volunteers we show appreciation to these special citizens
