Subject: | MPOETC Membership Revision |
In the near future, I will introduce the attached legislation to change the composition of the membership of the Municipal Police Officers’ Education & Training Commission (MPOETC). Current law provides for the Governor to appoint an FBI Special-Agent-In-Charge to the Commission. That position is currently vacant and has been since 2007. It is my understanding that the Department of Justice has advised the FBI not to participate in the Commission because they do not want them to be involved in any supervisory role with municipal law enforcement. I believe it would be more worthwhile for the Fraternal Order of Police to have representation on the Commission since they are much more in tune with the needs of municipal police officers in the Commonwealth. Therefore, my legislation will remove the gubernatorial appointment of an FBI Agent to the Commission and replace it with the President of the State FOP Lodge or his designee. This position will be served by virtue of the office held and will NOT require gubernatorial appointment or Senate confirmation. Please direct any questions to Kevin Andrews in my office at 610-461-5543 or kandrews@pahousegop.com. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
