Subject: | RE: Resolution Honoring Puerto Rican Boxer Miguel Cotto for His Achievements |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution honoring Miguel Cotto for his achievements and contributions to the sport of boxing and to his Puerto Rican heritage. Cotto recently became the first Puerto Rican boxer in history to win world titles in four different weight divisions. With several family members already involved in the sport of boxing, Miguel Cotto began boxing at a young age and developed as a champion amateur fighter. Cotto went on to win several amateur international competitions and represent Puerto Rico at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 before beginning his professional boxing career in 2001. During the span of more than a decade, he became a multiple-division world champion through his defeat of several top contenders in international tournaments. On June 7, 2014, Cotto defeated Sergio Martinez to win the WBC Middleweight title and became the first Puerto Rican boxer in history to win world titles in four different weight divisions. Following his victory on June 7, Cotto’s professional boxing record now stands at 39-4-0, including 32 knockouts. In addition to his professional contributions to the sport of boxing, Cotto has given back to his fellow Puerto Ricans through charitable endeavors. He formed a non-profit, The Angel of Miguel Cotto Foundation, to help children battling obesity and he also launched Miguel Cotto Promotions to promote the sport of boxing. Please join me in honoring Miguel Cotto’s achievements and contributions to the sport of boxing and to his Puerto Rican heritage. If you are interested in co-sponsoring this resolution, please contact my Harrisburg office. |
