MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Resolution - Commemorating the 1st Anniversary of the 19 Fallen Granite Mountain Hotshot Firefighters

You may recall that a cosponsorship memorandum was circulated last year to honor the memory of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot members that gave their lives in the line of duty on June 30, 2013; however, that resolution was never introduced. Therefore, in the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the first anniversary of these fallen firefighters.

As you know, on June 30, 2013, 19 Arizona firefighters, 14 of them in their 20s, died while fighting a raging wildfire. This tragedy wiped out all but one of the elite 20-member Granite Mountain Hotshots, based in Prescott, Arizona, and was the deadliest single day for U.S. firefighters since September 11, 2001.

One of the members of this elite unit who lost his life was Robert Caldwell. Robert lived in Richboro, Bucks County, until about 15 years ago. He left behind a new wife and a 5-year-old stepson.

Please join us in sponsoring this resolution to commemorate and honor these 19 firefighters for their great bravery and sacrifice in the face of dire situations.
