Subject: | JOB PATHWAYS AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will modernize the professional credentialing process for those seeking initial licensing in the cosmetology field. Pennsylvania presently employs a process to credential individuals that is antiquated and contains subjective evaluation metrics. Maintaining this process in its present form along with other mitigating factors may even encourage people to forego licensure in favor of working in an underground economy that denies the Commonwealth millions in tax revenue. A number of states now complete the credentialing process while students are still in attendance. This results in students being completely certificated and ready to work upon graduation. I will propose a process that is not only streamlined but will also save the Commonwealth money. I am confident that this process adequately provides for a more efficient pathway to licensure without compromising public safety. I urge you to join me and support this budget positive jobs-based legislation. |
