Subject: Ethics Act Amendment: Ban on Cash Gifts
 
I plan to introduce legislation in the near future that will prohibit legislators, other public officials and public employees who are subject to the provisions of the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act from accepting cash gifts from individuals, including lobbyists and the principals they represent. This limitation would not apply to gifts provided by close family members when the motivation for the gift is of a personal nature.

I believe that it is time to ensure that a practice that is both inappropriate and questionable is deemed illegal. Chairman Cohen will be joining me as the first co-sponsor. Please consider cosponsoring the bill, as well.
