MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 19, 2014 09:17 AM
From: Representative Tommy Sankey
To: All House members
Subject: Introduction of legislation to provide for de-titling of vehicles when they are recycled by a scrap metal processor

In the near future I will be introducing legislation which would provide for de-titling of vehicles when they are recycled by a scrap metal processor. Currently, scrap metal processors and auto dismantlers have different procedures to follow when processing a vehicle despite the fact that they are largely performing the same task. This legislation would remove the discrepancy in law between the two sections.

It is my belief that we as a government have a duty to our constituents to not interfere in the matters of private industry where possible and certainly not create situations via law that unduly burdensome competitors and not others within the same marketplace. Passage of this legislation would rectify that very issue that is currently occurring in our commonwealth.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Introduced as HB2381
