Subject: | Prohibition of Hiring Local Elected Officials in District Offices of Members of the General Assembly |
Immediately, I will be introducing legislation that amends Title 65 (Public Officials) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, to prohibit the hiring of local government officials in district offices of members of the General Assembly. I feel that this legislation embodies good government practices in further thwarting nepotism and discouraging patronage jobs by clarifying and codifying this in a new chapter outlining hiring practices for the General Assembly. As public servants we are tasked with keeping the public trust – the best way to accomplish this goal is to clearly spell out what is unacceptable in State Statute, specifically the one that Governs our positions as elected officials. A preliminary draft of this legislation is attached. |
