MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 6, 2014 10:55 AM
From: Representative Doyle Heffley
To: All House members
Subject: Task Force on Opiate Prescription Drug Proliferation

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to establish a task force on opiate prescription drug proliferation in the Commonwealth. My resolution seeks to create a task force and an advisory committee, which will have members from around Pennsylvania charged with gathering facts from public hearings held by the legislative committees and to share their wisdom on the problem. The task force and advisory committee will submit a report to the General Assembly within one year. The report will suggest changes to current laws and regulations that will help stem the tide of this severe public health crisis.

With the increasingly troublesome rise of those using opiate prescription drugs and many moving to heroin, a method needs to be created to help those who may otherwise be left behind. This resolution is an urgently needed step in the right direction to control the growing epidemic of opiate prescription drug misuse and abuse in the Commonwealth.

Please join me cosponsoring this important resolution.
