MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 19, 2013 03:10 PM
From: Representative Sid Michaels Kavulich
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing October 5 & 6 2013 as “National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Weekend” in Pennsylvania

I plan to soon introduce a resolution recognizing October 5 & 6 2013 as “National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Weekend” in Pennsylvania. The United States Congress and the President of the United States have designated the weekend of the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service to honor firefighters and emergency services personnel who have sacrificed their lives to save others. The Commonwealth should formally join in the effort of recognizing firefighters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in responding to protect their fellow citizens from fire dangers.

An average of 100 firefighters and emergency personnel courageously make the ultimate sacrifice each year. A total of 86 firefighters and emergency personnel from across the nation, including 10 from Pennsylvania, will be specifically remembered during the roll call at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Day on October 6, 2013; because they had lost their lives in 2012. Those courageous heroes are: Corey A. Baker, Kenhorst Volunteer Fire Company No. 1; David M. Flint, Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department; Chris “Goody” Good, Good Will Fire Company; Steven C. Henry, Sr., Columbia Consolidated Fire Department; Brandon L. Little, Union Hook and Ladder Company 33; Michael Martin, PPL Susquehanna LLC; Robert P. Neary, Philadelphia Fire Department; Walter C. Sumner, Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department; Daniel Sweeney, Philadelphia Fire Department; and David A. Wintz, Sr., Bristol Fire Company.

Further, the resolution will honor those gentlemen and express the House’s condolences to their families, friends, loved ones and fellow fire and emergency personnel. It also will congratulate all fire departments, municipalities and other groups that organize similar memorial service events. Lastly, it will urge all residents to remember and thank all fire and emergency services personnel who have served their communities. I hope you will join me in sponsoring and supporting the resolution.

Please contact Cameron Texter in the Democratic Office of Member Services at (717) 705-2062 if you have questions about the resolution. Thank you.
