Subject:	Resolution Recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Department of Labor & Industry

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution honoring the 100^th anniversary of the Department of Labor and Industry. For the past century, the Department has worked tirelessly to promote economic development and an improved business climate through a multitude of initiatives and programs, helping Pennsylvania’s workforce remain world-class and globally competitive. The Department was originally founded to ensure workplace safety, enforce child labor laws, and serve as a repository of industrial statistics. Over the last century, the Department’s oversight has grown to include job training and placement services for workers, providing income security for unemployed and injured workers, securing and maintaining employment and independence for individuals with disabilities, fostering cooperation between labor and management, and ensuring accurate and timely labor market information and economic analyses. To this day, the Department of Labor and Industry and its employees continue to improve the quality of life and economic security for workers and businesses of the Commonwealth. As such, please join me in recognizing the Department on its ceremonious and praiseworthy 100^th anniversary.
