Subject:	Renaming a section of Route 233 as the Army Sgt. Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation designating State Route 233 from the eastern corporate limits of Newville Borough to the Cumberland County/Perry County line, as the Army Sgt. Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway, in honor of a fallen Cumberland County soldier. Timothy L. Hayslett was born May 17, 1977, in Winston-Salem, NC. He moved to Newville, Cumberland County, PA., along with his family in 1983. He attended Big Spring High School, Newville, and entered the United States Army in 1995, where he served for 8 years. Army Sgt. Timothy L Hayslett was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 37^th Armored Regiment, 1^st Armored Division, at Friedberg, Germany. He died November 15, 2003, at 26 years of age, while on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised exploding device (IED) struck his Humvee. Timothy, beloved son of Guy L. and Mary D. Hayslett, of Newville, PA, was courageously serving his country at the time of his death and his excellence as a soldier has been extolled by many. Timothy’s entire life was dedicated to serving, protecting and helping other people and it is only fitting that his name be placed on this section of highway in remembrance of someone who gave his life in service to his community.
