|Subject:||Physician Assistants_ (package of legislation)|
|In the near future I will be introducing legislation to amend the Medical Practice Act and the Osteopathic Medical Practice Act regarding physician supervision of physician assistants.
Current regulations require supervising physicians to countersign all patient records completed by their physician assistants within 10 days. Both physicians and physician assistants believe this requirement is overly burdensome and takes time away that could be better used in treating patients.
I have worked with the PA Medical Society to develop modified countersignature requirements that establish 100% review of patient records during the physician assistant’s first year of practice, but then afterwards would be set by the supervising physician. My legislation has the support of the PA Medical Society.
I would greatly appreciate your consideration and support, by co-sponsoring both pieces of legislation. Thanks in advance.
