MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 12, 2013 03:11 PM
From: Representative Garth D. Everett
To: All House members
Subject: Armed Forces Week Resolution

I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the week of May 11 through 18, 2013 as “Armed Forces Week” in Pennsylvania.

In 1949, President Harry S. Truman established “Armed Forces Day,” which is celebrated annually each May on the third Saturday. This year “Armed Forces Day” will be celebrated on May 18th.

This resolution will go a long way in showing the pride we have in our nation’s military strength and its success. It is important to note the many men and women of our Armed Forces who selfishly give so much of themselves and their families to serve this great country. There are currently 1,455,375 active and 827,109 reserve United States military personnel stationed around the globe.

The members, along with their families, of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard and the Reserve and government civilians need our support and encouragement.

Please join me in honoring our men and women of the Armed Forces by sponsoring this resolution to recognize them for their dedicated service and sacrifice, and commending them to their outstanding performance in the war and their protection of the homeland.
