Subject: | Mandatory Diabetes Screening (Former HB 1222) |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce House Bill 1222, Printer’s Number 1334 of the 2011-2012 legislative session. My legislation amends the Public School Code of 1949 to provide for mandatory diabetes screening of every child prior to he or she being admitted to school for the first time. This screening will assess whether, due to apparent risk factors, a child is likely to have diabetes. By screening for risk factors to provide early detection, many children may be able to begin treatment early and prevent the disorder itself. Preventing the development of diabetes is a type of “cure” for individuals who are at risk of developing the disease. Previous Co-sponsors : YOUNGBLOOD, D. COSTA, GEORGE, MURT AND M. O'BRIEN |
