MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 31, 2013 02:27 PM
From: Representative Angel Cruz
To: All House members
Subject: Prohibiting Firearms in the Capitol Complex (Former HB 1187)

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation – former House Bill 1187 – that will prohibit individuals from carrying firearms, rifles, or shotguns at any time in the Capitol Complex. It is important to note that my legislation would not apply to law enforcement and security personnel.

My bill would require lockers or similar facilities to be made available, at no charge, for the temporary checking of firearms, rifles, and shotguns by persons lawfully carrying these weapons. The lockers or similar facilities will be made available at or within each building in the Capitol Complex.

I believe by prohibiting firearms, rifles, and shotguns in the Capitol Complex we would be providing a safer work environment for our staff and ourselves. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
