Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 10, 2013 09:36 AM
From: Representative Stephen Barrar
To: All House members
Subject: Barrar: Military Residency for Colleges former HB 662

I plan to re-introduce legislation that provides an exception to the residency requirement for in-state tuition to the Commonwealth’s colleges and universities. This exception will be applied to non-resident veterans, their spouse and dependent children.

My legislation will also require that the local sponsor rate for each Community College be extended to the non-resident veterans, their spouse and dependent children.

I believe it would be good public policy to open up our colleges and universities to non-resident veterans and their families, especially since the newly expanded federal G.I. Bill includes almost a doubling for college funding for veterans.

This one initiative will go a long way in providing additional support to our veterans and their families; another way of saying thank you for your service to this country.

Introduced as HB472
