MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 1, 2013 09:10 AM
From: Representative Harry Readshaw
To: All House members
Subject: Co-sponsorship: Allowing the Office of Attorney General to receive compensation for collection efforts.

In the near future I plan to introduce legislation that will allow the Office of Attorney General (OAG) to receive compensation for their efforts to collect debts of the Commonwealth.

The current laws do not allow for compensation by the OAG, but do allow private collection agencies utilized by the OAG to charge the debtor for collection efforts. This legislation will allow the OAG to charge a small nominal fee to cover the costs incurred during their debt collection efforts. Currently, the costs incurred by the OAG for their debt collection efforts are not billed to the debtor, but paid by the taxpayer.

Thank you.

Introduced as HB705
