MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 14, 2012 03:05 PM
From: Representative Robert W. Godshall
To: All House members
Subject: Opening Schools after Labor Day Holiday

In the near future I plan to re-introduce (Former HB 137) – An Act amending the Public School Code of 1949 (Title 24), changing provisions relating to school schedules. Opening Schools after Labor Day. This bill was introduced as a way to ensure that Pennsylvania families get all the benefits of a full, traditional summer vacation while not negatively impacting the education of students. This issue has proven to be very popular. A survey by Mansfield University in 2006 showed that the public supports my legislation 47 percent to 26 percent. Since then I have received many calls, e-mails and letters in support of it as well. Former Co-sponsors:BUXTON, CALTAGIRONE, CREIGHTON, DALEY, DeLUCA, FLECK, HARKINS, HORNAMAN, MARSHALL, REICHLEY and STERN.

Introduced as HB75
