Subject: | Co-sponsorship: School Police Education and Training (HB 1554) |
The Public School Code requires all school police officers to complete training as set forth in Title 53 (Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Act), however, the training is not specified in Title 53 and the school districts are not permitted to receive reimbursement under Title 53 for the training costs. I am planning on re-introducing legislation (HB 1554) that would amend Title 53 to require all school police officers to successfully complete the training provided under the Municipal Police Education and Training Program. It will also provide reimbursement of training expense for all school police officers by the Municipal Police Officer’s Education and Training Commission. Currently, all municipal police including sheriffs in counties of the second class, college campus police, railroad or street railway police, the Harrisburg International Airport Police, an airport authority police department and security officers of the first or second class city housing authority are required to complete the Municipal Police Education and Training Program.
