Subject: | Making Outdoor Seating Provisions Permanent |
Soon I will introduce legislation to make permanent the outdoor COVID-19 dining provisions that are set to expire at the end of 2024. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) provided flexibility for licensees in response to the pandemic and the various restrictions it placed on their businesses. Furthermore, the General Assembly codified changes in outdoor dining to provide our licensee community with further flexibility and to encourage safety among patrons and employees of these establishments. These changes included allowing the PLCB to extend the licensed premises of an applicant to include any outside serving area that is immediately adjacent to the existing licensed areas; or within one thousand feet of the main licensed building, notwithstanding that the area to be temporarily licensed and the main licensed building are separated by a public thoroughfare. With these provisions set to expire, I believe making these changes permanent will allow our licensed establishments to continue recovering from the pandemic, as well as enable our constituents to continue to enjoy dining out in safety and comfort. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation. |
