Subject: | World Wish Day in Pennsylvania |
In the very near future, I will be introducing a Resolution that designates April 29, 2024 as “World Wish Day in Pennsylvania.” World Wish Day, celebrated every year on April 29th, is a national holiday and is sponsored by the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” which is an organization that focuses on making the wishes of critically ill children come true. Although not all wishes that are made are or can be granted, it is surprising to know that more than a half a million wishes have been granted by the foundation since its inception decades ago. World Wish Day was first officially celebrated on April 29, 2010 and is a holiday that was inspired by the story of a young leukemia patient back in 1980. Christopher James Greicus was a seven-year-old boy battling blood cancer. Despite Christopher’s illness, his one big wish was to become a police officer. Recognizing his wish to become a police officer, the Arizona Police Department heard of his touching story and decided to grant young Christopher his wish, making him a police officer and the only person to be granted as an honorary D.P.S. officer of Arizona. This very honorable and touching event caught the attention of individuals who ultimately decided to form an organization whose main goal was granting wishes to children now known as the “Make a Wish Foundation.” Currently, the “Make a Wish Foundation’ is found in 50 countries on five continents and thankfully the Foundation intends to expand their services to even more countries throughout the world. Please join me in co-sponsoring this very important Resolution. |
