Subject: | Prohibiting suspension of healthcare benefits during a strike |
As a cancer survivor, I am thankful each and every day that I had health care during the biggest battle of my life. Cancer and other illnesses and health emergencies don’t happen on a set schedule and they don’t come with advanced notice. That is why I am introducing a bill to prohibit public employers from stripping workers of their healthcare benefits while on strike.
The decision to strike is made after serious consideration and all other methods of settling a contract have been exhausted. While being on strike is difficult for workers, it is made to achieve economic justice and better working conditions for them and their families. Stripping striking workers of their healthcare is cruel and dangerous. It puts the lives of workers and their family members susceptible to life threatening injuries, illnesses, and massive healthcare debt.
This legislation is a companion to HB126 from the 2021-2022 Session introduced by State Representative Dan Miller.
Please join me to protect the health and safety of workers and their families. |
