Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 13, 2023 11:10 AM
From: Senator Devlin J. Robinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Permitting Doorless Driving for Jeeps and Broncos

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to allow Jeep and Bronco owners the option to remove factory removable doors when driving on Pennsylvania roads.

Currently, it is illegal to drive without doors here in our Commonwealth, except for off-roading. In fact, Pennsylvania is the only place in the United States where this is still prohibited. One of my constituents who is part of the Jeep community brought this to my attention, and asked if something can be done so he and others in Pennsylvania can enjoy the same freedoms that every other state provides.

I am working closely with stakeholders on crafting a piece of legislation that adheres to the logistical and safety standards that are important to our residents and law enforcement, such as requiring side view mirrors when doors are removed, and upholding the protections in place for minors.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to bring more freedom and enjoyment to so many who drive on Pennsylvania roads. If you have any questions, feel free to contact my office.

Introduced as SB298
