House of Representatives
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 29, 2024 09:02 AM
From: Representative Tarik Khan and Rep. Marla Brown
To: All House members
Subject: Study to Examine and Compare State Services for People with Disabilities

Current data indicates that service providers (including direct care workers) for individuals with certain disabilities covered by the Office of Long-Term Living (OLTL) are paid significantly less than their counterparts who work for programs that serve people with intellectual disabilities and autism under the Office of Developmental Programs (OD) regardless of the individual’s level of need.

In the near future, we will introduce a House Resolution directing a Joint State Government Commission to undertake a comprehensive review of services and rates by the Office of Long-Term Living and the Office of Developmental Programs.

The study will thoroughly assess and compare the service delivery mechanisms within the Office of Long-Term Living with those within the Office of Developmental Programs. It will focus on the services offered, the compensation structures for frontline workers within participants’ residences, and the pay rates of employment support providers.

The outcome of this examination will provide the task force with insights into whether the needs of individuals with disabilities are being adequately addressed. The Joint State Government Commission will compile its discoveries and suggestions and present them to the House of Representatives.

Please join us in cosponsoring this critical resolution.
