MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 2, 2023 11:35 AM
From: Representative Seth M. Grove
To: All House members
Subject: Unborn Child Support

The preparation taken to bring a child into the world is not limited to providing both mother and child with vital medical prenatal care. Expecting mothers may experience significant adjustments to their lifestyle. Employment and income fluctuations, along with housing changes, and other that come with making the appropriate arrangements to care for the birth of a child can become very overwhelming and sometimes stressful.

Providing the necessary financial support to a child from conception through age 18 is paramount to ensuring that the child’s basic needs are covered.

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would allow the courts to establish unborn child support obligations for the time period during pregnancy. My legislation will allow a biological mother to petition the court to establish support from the biological father that would start on the date of the first prenatal medical visit of the mother by a physician.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation that will encourage personal responsibility and accountability to children.

Introduced as HB2190
