Subject: | Financial Disclosure for Write-In Candidates |
At the heart of administering fair elections is the fundamental premise that all candidates should be treated equally – no matter which party they represent or how they come to have their name on the ballot. Unfortunately, under current law there is an inconsistent requirement for candidates to file a statement of financial interest during an election. Candidates who file nominating petitions are removed from the ballot for failure to file these statements; however, those who are placed on the ballot due to a write-in campaign are not. Soon I will be introducing legislation to extend the requirement for filing a statement of financial interests to all candidates who appear on the ballot in a General Election. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
