MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 18, 2023 04:02 PM
From: Representative Jim Marshall and Rep. Nick Pisciottano
To: All House members
Subject: Ignition Interlock for First time DUI offenders

In the near future, we will be introducing legislation that will require the use of an ignition interlock system for all first-time DUI offenders.

This legislation will also allow certain individuals who are under suspension for a DUI conviction to elect to immediately be eligible to drive again as long as they participate in the Ignition Interlock Limited License program.

According to PennDOT, the required use of ignition interlock systems prevented more than 85,000 drunk driving attempts in 2020. We know that many DUI offenders continue to drive despite a license suspension or revocation. It’s time we use the interlock system to its fullest potential and make Pennsylvania roads safer for all motorists.

We hope you will join us in sponsoring this critical legislation.

Introduced as HB1290
